If you need access to material that UEL does not have then you can request it as an inter-library loan (ILL) and we will try to supply it from another library.

The service is only available to current University of East London students/staff and it is not available to external users or alumni.

You can place as many ILL requests as required in an academic year. However, we do have restrictions on how many requests can be fulfilled by certain partners dependant on the user type you fall under. If we are unable to fulfil your request due to reaching such limit, we will contact you via email.

Making a Request:

1. Sign in to your Library Account via Ex Libris Discovery

2. Use the Library Search bar to make sure UEL does not hold the material you need in print or electronic format, and that it is not available freely on the Internet before you submit a request.

3. Click on 'ILL Request' from the navigation bar and complete the form providing the information requested:

Books: Only physical copies can be requested for entire works, if you require a specific chapter or sections up to 5% you can request this in a digital format.

Journal articles: You can only request one article from any single journal issue. If you require more than one article, please request the whole physical issue for loan.

Multi-volume sets: Please complete an individual request form per volume required.

Next Steps:

1. You will receive a confirmation of your ILL request to your UEL email address.

2. Library staff will be in touch with you when your item is ready to collect or if there are any issues with your request.

Requests from the British Library On Demand Service:

The British Library are still experiencing some issues following a technology outage caused by a cyber attack, due to this you may experience a longer wait for resources sourced from them. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.
